Lee Howes

Perth Art Glass has the pleasure of presenting guest artist Lee Howes. Lee will be conducting a 4 day masterclass titled “Glass Casting”.

During this 4 day workshop Lee will unlock the mysteries of casting, showing how sculptures can be created from glass using traditional casting techniques. Lee will also explore new methods and techniques to bring cast glass to life.

Participants will learn about open face casting and use of refractory materials. They will make clay and wax models to cast and learn how to determine glass volumes. Mould making and cold working will also be covered.

By Lee sharing these skills the participant will be armed with the knowledge to make the choice that best suits them. Lee is a highly experienced Glass Artist beginning her adventure with glass in the early 90s. Winner of the 2011 Vicki Torr Memorial Prize and a 2014 finalist in the Ranamok Glass Prize, one of her most recognizable recent commissions was for the 2015 Australian of the Year awards. Lee’s design was chosen from hundreds of applicants for its “stunning representation of the essence of Australia”.

Lee’s versatility and experimentation is what sets her apart from other glass artists. She is an accomplished caster and fuser, and has mastered the skills of printing and painting on glass using various techniques. Perth Art Glass is thrilled that Lee is prepared to present her only masterclass in Western Australia with us, giving our local Glass Artists the opportunity to share in her vast experience and knowledge.

The participants of this workshop will gain invaluable practical experience to considerably enhance their skills and inspire them to forge ahead into new territory.
