– Heats up very quickly
– The temperature control dial works well. It heats up and cools down quickly
– Comes pre-tinned and has no issues taking solder
– You can place the iron down on a table and it stays horizontal and doesn’t tilt forward and burn the table, therefore, a stand is not necessary, unless preferred.
– The smaller tip (T18-S3) is ideal for building up solder on the edges of a suncatcher.
– The Hakko creates a nice bead on the edges and on the internal solder joins

It is very lightweight. A perfect little hobby iron for students and advanced copper foilers

– On 4mm lead it worked well providing a very neat joint at 420deg
– On 10mm lead it worked well providing a very neat joint at 450deg
– I was concerned that the 5.2mm tip would be too small for larger leads but the consistent temperature makes this iron work well regardless of the small tip. When working with large lead the tip can lose too much heat making it more difficult to work with.
– When comparing this with the now discontinued Weller 100W temp controlled iron with a 6.35mm tip, it works well with the slightly smaller tip.

As the Weller 100W is no longer available I would suggest this is good replacement but the Robinson is preferred.
