We were asked by a client to design and craft a pair of panels to remind them of a recent holiday spent in Bath in the UK. They had seen a beautiful door in a gallery using blown glass rondels and wanted to use this theme in a pair of new entry doors in their home.
Ian designed a loose sketch, then set out to find the large roundels. After some searching across the globe, only to be disappointed, he had a conversation with his old friend, Gerry Reily, at the @meltingpotglassstudio in Margaret River. Ian drove down to the Melting Pot to discuss size and colour combinations with Gerry and left him to create some swirled and single-coloured rondels that could be incorporated into the work.
Along with the custom rondels, Ian used a selection of stock and vintage rondels that he had tucked away for just the right project. The panels were installed to the delight of the client who was super excited to see the result and the reminder of their trip to the UK.
At Perth Art Glass we are often asked about glass blowing and are always happy to direct people to the Melting Pot. It’s a fantastic local business that has been running as long as we have.
